The city police took into custody 113 persons including a few Bangladeshi and Myanmarees nationals during a cordon and search operation conducted at Hafeezbabanagar early on Tuesday.

Around 400 policemen from different units like Telangana State Special Police, City Armed Reserve, Task Force and civil police cordoned off the Hafeezbabanagar C Block area and conducted a house to house search.

“All 113 persons taken into custody have failed to provide any identification documents. We suspect that a few of them are foreign nationals staying illegally in the country. We will verify their credentials and take necessary action,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) V. Satyanarayana said.

The police also seized 30 vehicles as the owners failed to provide proper documents. The cordon and search operation gains significance in the backdrop of the death of two SIMI activists in an encounter in Nalgonda District three days ago.

The police said that the duo had boarded a bus bound for Vijayawada from Chaderghat area of Old City.
