HMR agrees to allot land for dedicated fire stations at Uppal, Miyapur

Support to be also given for upgrading fire stations on the 3 Metro Rail corridors

Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) authorities have agreed to allot land to accommodate dedicated fire service stations at Uppal and Miyapur depots besides providing the required support for upgrading the present fire fighting service stations on the three Metro Rail corridors.

Fire safety measures

At a meeting held with the HMR and Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services Ltd., it was also agreed to that the suggestions of the latter would be incorporated in the Metro Rail stations and other building designs to ensure fool-proof fire safety measures.

Request for land

During discussions, Director General of Fire Services Vivek Dube and his team requested the HMR authorities for allotment of land for dedicated fire service stations at the three depots, some important stations and also support upgrading the existing fire stations to cater to the Metro Rail needs.

HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy and his team explained that the fire protection, fire control and fire detection systems as well as fire prevention measures being planned for Hyderabad Metro were of international standards, fully complying with the provisions of the National Building Code (NBC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines, an official spokesperson said.

Presentation given

L&T Metro Rail Ltd. Project Director M.P. Naidu gave a presentation on the conceptual station building plans, depot layouts and salient features of fire detection, fire control, fire protection and safety arrangements.

The fire protection mechanism that will be built into the building designs and coaches were also explained. HMR chief engineer Md. Ziauddin, Director of Fire Services P.Venkateshwar and other senior officers were present.
