: The joy of the Padma award winners from Telangana knew no bounds —for their selection to one of the top civilian honours of the country — when they gathered here for a get-together.

Nasscom former chairman and founder of Cyient B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, Mohammed Abdul Wahid, Chintakanti Mallesham and Daripalli Ramaiah thanked the government for selecting them for the awards at the event organised by Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya here on Sunday.

“This is a recognition given to the profession of Unani medicine and not for an individual,” was how Mr. Wahid responded.

Mr. Mohan Reddy stressed the need for the youth to pursue technical education to meet the demand that was expected to come up in the coming days.

Another awardee Ramaiah, who was recognised for his pioneering contribution in promoting tree plantation, recalled how he had been working for the cause over the past several years.

“I made it a point to ensure that the slogan of tree plantation was prominently highlighted in my daughter’s wedding card,” he said.

The Union Minister, who hosted the get-together, said it was a token gesture for the services rendered by the award winners.

It was proposed to organise full-fledged felicitation to them during the Alai Balai that he hosts every year following Vijayadasami.
