AP Congress trying to get back on rails

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is slowly trying to get its activities back on rails in the coming days by actively taking up people’s issues.

At a meeting of senior leaders chaired by APCC chief N. Raghuveera Reddy here, it was decided that time has come for the party men to launch an agitation against the anti-people policies being adopted by the TDP government. Failure of the TDP government to implement the crop loan waiver scheme immediately is being used by the party to reach out to the people.

The meeting attended by former PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana, former Ministers – Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, S.Sailajanath and C. Ramachandraiah, Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and APCC chief spokesperson R. Padmaraju here on Thursday saw the leaders lamenting that TDP government failed to come to the rescue of farmers. They said the delay in the implementing the poll promise was causing concern among the farmers as the banks were threatening to auction their gold taken on loan.

Leaders also came down heavily the TDP government withdrawing security to several Congress leaders. They alleged that the government was adopting preferential treatment with regard to providing security. People belonging to one party were given priority while the Opposition members were denied the same even though the threat perception for both was on equal footing.

Congress leaders deputed Mr. Ramachandraiah and Dr. Sailajanath to make a presentation before the 14th Finance Commission, which visits Tirupati on Friday. They are planning to seek additional funds for A.P.

With regard to strengthening the party, it was decided to reconstitute the APCC and DCCs in October. In the second phase, the town, city and mandal committees would be constituted. The party has taken the proposed elections to the six municipal corporations and municipalities seriously and plans to activate the party cadre.

The meeting flayed the Government for doing away with model ryot scheme, mid-day meal agencies, fair price shop dealerships and outsourcing employees. The party leaders also reviewed the prospects of the Congress candidate in Nandigama by-election.
