‘₹50 lakh worth of sarees imported’

Distribution of Batukamma sarees for Dasara was aimed at making the people happy and providing work for weavers across the State. The distribution of Batukamma sarees commenced in all the three districts on Monday.

Addressing a gathering after participating in the distribution programme at Siddipet on Monday, Mr. Harish Rao said that distribution of new clothes was started by the Government for all religious groups like Christians and Muslims and now they are being distributed to Hindus. “This will provide employment for thousands of weavers. As the demand was high we have imported sarees valued at ₹50 lakh from Surath while remaining were brought from Sircilla. The total number of sarees will be procured from weavers locally from next year,” said Mr. Harish Rao adding that this would be a regular affair for every Batukamma festival.

Siddipet District Collector P. Venkataram Reddy said that 3.49 lakh sarees would be distributed in 400 villages across the district. Member of Legislative Assembly Chinta Prabhakar and District Collector Manickaraj Kannan launched the programme at Sagnareddy. Addressing the gathering they said that the Government had been taking several steps for the welfare of the people. At Medak the programme was launched by Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy and District Collector Bharati Hollikeri.
