5 including official caught in SSA scam

City police on Friday nabbed five people including a government official in the Education Department for siphoning off Central Government funds sanctioned to madrasas.

According to Central Crime Station Police, Assistant DEO M. Yogender Kumar colluded with other accused including Mohammed Zubair to enrol volunteers for the Sarva Siksha Abhyan programme in madrasas.

The accused allegedly opened bank accounts in their names and siphoned off Rs. 18.6 lakh.

To cover up the misappropriation the government official also damaged evidence including records pertaining to madrasas, the police said.
