The 4G Wi-Fi services are expected to be rolled out in the western part of the city, where most of IT clusters are located, by September and the entire city gets covered by the year-end. The best part for the Wi-Fi users in the city is that the services will be available free of cost for the first six months.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday directed officials to take steps required to have 4G services introduced in three months to improve digital broadband infrastructure here.
At a meeting attended by IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar and representatives of Reliance, which is expanding the 4G services, Mr. Rao said the entire city should be equipped with the fourth generation broadband wireless services by December end.
For Wi-Fi services in Telangana, an amount of Rs.4,100 crore is being spent and optic fibre cable running to 1,700 km was being laid in Hyderabad itself of which 500 km is already completed. Warangal will be the next city to get 4G services, the Reliance representatives said.
Officials were directed to provide all support to Reliance in rolling out the services at the earliest and added that temporary towers could be set up to start the process followed with underground fibre optic cables.
Apart from Reliance, other service providers too will receive government support, Mr. Rao said, adding that through the 4G services, services such as mobile, television and internet could be made available at an affordable cost.
Reliance State CEO K.S.Venugopal and Coordinator P.V.L.Madhava Rao explained to the Chief Minister that the company is planning to roll out the 4G services in six other municipal corporations and 37 municipalities across Telangana in the first phase.
The second phase will cover other cities, towns and 220 mandals.
