₹38 lakh in foreign currency seized at RGIA

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials on Wednesday detained a Dubai-bound passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here and seized the equivalent of over ₹ 38 lakh in foreign currencies from his possession.

Officials said that the passenger identified as Mohd. Ahmed Ali Baig, who was scheduled to fly on an Indigo flight No. 6E-1405 to Dubai was intercepted after clearing immigration near security check.

On profiling at 10 p.m., a CISF officer detected foreign currencies in his baggage. An inspection revealed that Baig was carrying UAE Dirham 1,175 (valued at ₹ 22,553), Oman Riyal 1,500 (valued at ₹ 2,75,064) and Saudi Riyal 1,90,200 (valued at about ₹ 35,76,170).

The passenger, along with the seized foreign currency, was handed over to Customs officials at RGIA Hyderabad for further investigation.
