Fresh cases of swine flu continued to be reported in the city, even as Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah made an appealed to the public to desist from panicking.
On Monday, 25 cases of swine flu were confirmed out of the 51 swab samples tested at the laboratory of Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM). Between January 1 and 19, IPM has tested 544 swab samples, of which 171 samples tested positive for swine flu. The nodal centre for treating swine flu patients, Gandhi Hospital is teeming with patients.
At present, there are 20 swine flu positive patients and 23 suspected patients who have been admitted to the hospital. Doctors said on Monday night that a 40-year-old female from Bidar was brought to the hospital from a private hospital in a critical condition.
Probe into ‘polio’ death
Dr. Rajaiah, who holds the health portfolio, told reporters on Monday that he had ordered a probe into the reported death of child at Warangal on Sunday. The child allegedly died after being administered polio drops. He said that no child had died due to polio drops in the last 15 years and that an inquiry would bring out actual cause of death.
He said the immunisation drive would continue on Monday, with Health Department staff visiting door-to-door to administer the vaccine to children. Another round of the polio vaccine drops administration would be taken up on February 22.
On alleged irregularities in appointments on outsourcing basis in the Health Department, he clarified that not a single post had been filled yet and there was no scope for any irregularities as appointments would be based on marks, reservation, nativity and experience.
