A 14-month-old toddler lost his life and his mother sustained injuries after the roof of a house in which they were living caved in at Sitaphalmandi on Sunday.

According to the Chilkalguda police, the incident took place at 6.10 am.

Police said the toddler’s father Raju Yadav was a dairy farmer and ran his business a stone’s throw from the house. His wife, Swathi, was in the house when the incident occurred.

“The child died on the spot. Swathi, who was injured, was treated at Gandhi Hospital and received 10 stitches. She has been discharged now. Raju has been living in the house for 12 years. He and Swathi were married five years ago. The 50-year-old structure, which became weak, collapsed as rainwater accumulated on the roof,” said Chilkalguda inspector A C Balagangi Reddy.

Officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation visited the spot.
