13 nursing students injured in accident

Thirteen nursing students were injured with two of them sustaining serious injuries near the Apollo Institute of Health Care Management when a 19-year-old rammed into them on Monday morning. The incident took place at about 9.30 a.m. when the students were waiting for a bus on the road between Ambedkar Nagar and Mahatma Gandhi Nagar near Shaikpet, said the Banjara Hills police.

Two girls were seriously injured and identified as Yogita and Leena, natives of Chhattisgarh. The other 11 nursing students are from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other states, said a police official. The accused who rammed his Tata Bolt car into the victims was identified as Srikanth, a college dropout, added the official.

After the incident, a case was registered against Srikanth under sections 337, 338 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. A resident of Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, he was taken into custody soon after the accident took place. “He left from his house some time before he hit the students. We are still ascertaining how he hit the students,” said the police official.

After the accident, the nursing students were rushed for treatment. They had all come to the Apollo Institute of Health Care Management for training as part of a government programme, said the police official and added that the vehicle had a yellow number plate.

Cab knocks down kid

In a separate incident, an Ola cab driver hit a three-year-old girl while reversing his car at Deverakonda Basti under the Banjara Hills police station limits on Monday evening. The incident took place at about 5.30 p.m., after the cab had dropped a customer at his house in the area, where the girl named Triveni was playing.

“The driver himself rushed the child to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, where Triveni was declared brought dead. The driver fled after the accident,” said a police official. A case was registered under section 304 (A) of the IPC.
