The number of Aadhaar cards issued in the State has exceeded the population Census of 2011. As per the 2011 Census, the population of Telangana was 3.51 crore and till date about 3.6 crore of Aadhaar cards have been given away. According to the UIDAI officials, those who were born after 2011 Census have also been covered.
“Apart from Delhi, AP and Telangana are the two States which have almost achieved 100 per cent Aadhaar enrolment in the country,” informed M.V.S. Rami Reddy, Deputy Director-General, UIDAI. “Most of the population aged 18 and above have been covered. There might be very few who have still not taken Aadhaar cards and we are running enrolment centres for them.”
Presently, there are 479 Aadhaar enrolment centres in the TS. The drive to link Aadhar with EPIC (Electoral Photo ID Card) is underway in both AP and Telangana. Apart from that, UIDAI has also shared the Aadhaar data and is also closely working with Stamps and Registrations Department as well as Municipal Administration Department. The Aadhaar data is also being used for enrolment in various skill development programmes in AP and Telangana.
