HYDERABAD: Minister for Information Technology, Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T.Rama Rao urged the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials to set a goal for daily water supply to the Hyderabad city, before planing for 24X7 water supply similar to some national and global cities.

Sharing the vision of Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao about Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs as recreational spots, besides beautification of Musi river, Mr.Rama Rao asked the officials to complete the Malkajgiri Project and HUDCO peripheral circle project by June 2017.

The work for surveying the lands for two reservoirs at Shameerpet, and Keshavpur should be expedited.

About revenue collections, the Minister complimented the Board for its sustainable average collections and improved service levels. He observed Board should not only become self-sufficient but surplus.

He directed the chief general managers (Engineering) to study and identify the localities in their circles where water supply and sewerage lines were going closely, to avoid pollution.

He also directed them to identify the old pipelines to be replaced, and spoke against manual scavenging. Contractors engaging workers to get into manholes should be booked under PD Act, he said.

Secretary, MA&UD Naveen Mittal and MD, HMWSSB M.Dana Kishore attended the meeting.
