A 30-year-old married woman was strangulated to death at a village in Sohna here on Thursday over a property dispute. Her family has accused her husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law of the murder.

The murder came to light on Thursday morning when Kripa Devi’s husband Sunder called her brother Virender and asked him to come over to his house to discuss a matter. “When we reached our sister Kripa Devi’s house in Harchandpur village, we found her lying dead on a bed in her room,” said Kripa’s brother Joginder, in the First Information Report.

Joginder, in his complaint to the police, said that his niece Sonia (11), told him that her father Sunder had beaten up her mother (Kripa) late on Wednesday night. He murdered her a few hours later with the help of her uncle Sattan and grandmother Shakuntala Devi.

Kripa is survived by four children.

The trouble had started in Kripa’s life soon after her wedding in 2006 with her husband, an alcoholic, regularly beating her up and abusing her. Joginder told the police that her sister’s father-in-law Jeet Ram had sold off a piece of land five years ago, but Sunder did not get his share. “Whenever Kripa asks for their share, Sunder along with his mother and brother beat her and abuse her,” said the FIR.

Sunder had beaten up Kripa in her mother’s presence as well a month ago.

Kripa’s relative Ranjit Kumar said that the autopsy report had established that she was strangled to death.

SHO of Sohan Sadar, Inspector Ramesh Kumar said a murder case was registered against the trio and the arrest will be made soon.
