A 34-year-old woman has allegedly been killed by her husband over domestic issues in north-east Delhi’s Welcome, the police said on Sunday.

The police control room received a call at 4.30 p.m. on August 31 about a woman found dead at her residence. A police team rushed to the spot and found the victim lying dead on the first floor.

“The deceased, identified as Sitara, lived in the house with her husband Adil and three children. She got married to Adil about eight years ago. The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem. The post-mortem report is awaited,” said a senior police officer.

Sitara’s younger sister Salma, who stays in the same locality, said Sitara’s elder daughter had come to her house in the evening on August 31. Later, Sitara’s other children also came to her house saying that their father had asked them to go to Salma’s house.

Scattered clothes

“My sister’s younger daughter started missing her mother and wanted to go back home. I asked my elder son to accompany her to my sister’s house. When they reached, they saw Adil coming out of the house. They entered the house, and found clothes and utensils scattered all over. The children then found my sister lying on the floor in an unconscious state,” said Salma.

“My son rushed to inform me about the incident. I went to my sister’s house and called a doctor from a nearby clinic. The doctor declared her dead. I informed the police about the incident. My sister got married to Adil around eight years back, after she separated from her first husband, with whom she had two children. She had one daughter with Adil,” Salma added.

A murder case has been registered at Welcome police station. The police said prima facie it appears that Sitara was strangulated. They suspect, Adil, who is absconding.
