Woman duped by online ‘friend’

A 28-year-old woman has approached the police after a man she befriended online threatened to morph her photos and upload them on the internet if she did not pay him money. The accused who met the woman on a matrimonial website identified himself as a London-based gynaecologist working with the WHO.

By the time the woman approached police, she was already duped of Rs. 37,000 and she was asked to pay Rs. 86,000 more.

“We are investigating the case on the basis of a phone number and an email id provided by the complainant,” a police officer said.

The victim is a resident of Central Delhi’s Turkman Gate. She befriended the man, who identified himself as Alex Ramsey, sometime in March end.
