Withdraw funds’ freeze, appeals DUTA

Teachers meet Sisodia to discuss issue

A delegation of Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) met Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday to discuss the stand-off between the university and the AAP government over the formation of governing bodies in 28 colleges that has lead to delay in salaries.

The State government had announced a freeze in July on the grant to the colleges fully or partially funded by it if governing bodies were not formed.

The teachers alleged that due to the discontinuation of grants, the colleges are now finding it difficult to release salaries to teaching and non-teaching staff.

The DUTA informed that in the meeting Mr. Sisodia said that the decision to freeze funds had been taken as a result of the inordinate delay, on the part of the University, to cooperate in the formation of governing bodies in these colleges.

Demands interim relief

The delegation requested Mr. Sisodia to ensure that employees and students are not made to suffer due to this stand-off and demanded interim relief for funds required to pay salaries.

In an appeal to Mr. Sisodia, the teachers wrote, “We support your insistence that governing bodies must be fully constituted at the earliest. However, we have now learnt that the colleges are finding it difficult to release salaries to teaching and non-teaching staff. Any delay in the release of salaries will cause a crisis in the personal lives of the employees and their families.”

They added that colleges will not be able to function normally and appealed to him to withdraw the decision to freeze funds.
