The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday, taking a dig at Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, said it will field people from Delhi for the upcoming Assembly polls and will “not have to bring people from Ghaziabad” to fight elections.
Responding to questions on who will be pitted against Mr. Kejriwal in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said: “We will field someone who will win against Kejriwal. The profile of the candidate will be such that he will definitely win election.”
He said that the party’s strategy was to “bloom the lotus” in all the 70 Assembly seats of the Capital.
With nominations for the February 7 polls commencing on Wednesday, Mr. Upadhyay said that the party’s election committee will be formed soon and candidates will be finalised within the next 3-4 days.
Reiterating the party’s stand of contesting polls under a “collective leadership” and not naming a chief ministerial candidate, Mr. Upadhyay said that like all other States that went to polls in 2014 under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party will do the same in Delhi.
