Voice of dissent in AAP

October 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:44 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Rebel Aam Aadmi Party MLA Pankaj Pushkar on Sunday accused the Arvind Kejriwal led government of “suppressing” his voice. In a letter to the Chief Minister and the Speaker of Delhi Assembly, the MLA from Timarpur said that the government has created “permanent barricades” between the ministers and the ‘aam aadmi’ and that it must review the 21 Parliamentary Secretaries it had appointed.

The letter alleged that not just the common people, but even MLAs have repeatedly been unable to get in touch with the ministers. Calling for a review of the posts of Parliamentary Secretaries, he demanded that the work done by them and the expenditure incurred on them be placed before the Assembly and the public.

“...let us ensure that we do not let the politics of rhetoric, lies and hypocrisy thrive in Delhi. Let us not turn the assembly debates into mere ritual. It is my special request that we do not attempt to suppress any voice in the debates of the Assembly,” wrote Mr Pushkar in his letter where he also demanded a special session of the Assembly.

He further raised doubts about the government’s intent to maintain “democracy” within itself. “In this context my experience so far has been very bad, my voice in the Assembly has been repeatedly suppressed... Since the formation of the Sixth Legislative Assembly, in all the meetings of the assembly held in subsequent eight months, only one day has been devoted to the Question Hour. What explains the attempts to evade questions? The restriction imposed on us to raise only ten issues of public importance under Rule 280 should be removed,” proposed Mr Pushkar.

Mr Pushkar who had openly sided with expelled AAP leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan is now a member of Swaraj Abhiyan a group floated by the two AAP founders.
