Following a plea alleging environmental damage resulting from unauthorised use of marriage halls, hospitals and clinics in Uttar Pradesh, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the State Pollution Control Board to submit an action taken report within a month.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said, “Let the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) look into the matter in the first instance in exercise of its statutory powers and take appropriate action as may be found necessary in accordance with law and furnish a factual and action taken report to this tribunal.”

Further the Bench added, “The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board may examine the issues of disposal of municipal solid waste, plastic waste, sewage, biomedical waste, norms of noise pollution and extraction of groundwater.”

The directions came while the green panel was hearing a plea that alleged that nursing homes, clinics, commercial complexes and establishments in Banda, Mahoba and Chitrakoot districts were operating without the requisite approvals and were in violation of norms, leading to adverse effect on the environment.
