Two persons died and four others injured when their speeding car lost control and fell into a drain in front of Civil Lines police chowki on GT Road.

They were returning home after a birthday party at Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad on Monday night, said the police.

The deceased have been identified as Rishabh Jain (20) and Laxmi Agrawal (40). The injured persons are stable and are kept under observation.

Prima facie it appears that the driver was overspeeding and he would have lost control of the vehicle, said the police.

“The incident took place when the family was going towards Gagan Vihar after a birthday party. One of the family members, Deepanshu, was driving the car. Around 10 p.m., when the vehicle reached near the Civil Lines police chowki , it lost control and fell into the drain,” said a senior police officer.

All of them fell into the drain and two of them drowned. A passerby, who spotted them, made a PCR call and a team rushed to the spot.

“The police response vehicle (PRV) helped rescue the victims. However, Jain and Agrawal died on the spot. The injured, including two children, have been admitted to a hospital. The doctors are monitoring the health of the injured. Their condition is said to be stable. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and other family members have been informed,” said Superintendent of Police (Ghaziabad city) Shlok Kumar

During investigation it was found that Agrawal, along with three of her family members, had gone to attend a birthday party of her son’s friend at Crossing republic in Ghaziabad. While returning, they were asked to drop two more people, who lived in the same area, to which they agreed,” added Mr. Kumar.
