The police, in an encounter in Bisrakh in Greater Noida on Monday, nabbed two criminals who had earlier killed two liquor shop sales collection agents and decamped with ₹4 lakh. A police officer was injured in the encounter while a third member of the gang of criminals managed to give the slip.
The police had received information regarding some miscreants heading towards a nearby village to execute a theft near the Ecotech III area around 1 p.m. The area police station in-charge, K.K. Rana, and his team gave chase as they sped towards Bisrakh.
“The police started chasing them but somehow they managed to flee towards Bisrakh. The Bisrakh police was then alerted,” said Love Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Budh Nagar.
Subsequently, the Bisrakh police intercepted the criminals at Balak Inter College and signalled them to stop. When surrounded, they opened fire at the police party; the police returned fire. At least 30 rounds were fired from both sides during the encounter.
“After a chase which lasted two hours, the police managed to overpower two of the criminals, identified as Manoj and Rajkumar. During the crossfire, a police constable too received bullet injuries. One miscreant managed to flee, leaving the car behind,” the SSP added. Constable Balvender Kumar, who received bullet injuries on his shoulder, is recuperating at the district hospital in Noida.
During interrogation, the nabbed criminals revealed that they were heading towards a nearby village to execute a theft and that on September 20, they had killed two men and looted around ₹4 lakh from them.
The police have recovered weapons and confiscated the car from the encounter spot. They have also launched a search operation to nab the absconding criminal.
