Traffic cops to go undercover to enforce ban

June 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - New Delhi:

The Delhi Traffic Police has decided to go undercover to enforce the ban on web-app based taxi services operating across the Capital despite a ban issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

While his unit had already begun prosecuting cabs being operated by Uber, Ola Cabs, and Taxi4Sure from Monday, Muktesh Chander, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said it would now go further to ‘effectively enforce it’.

“The Traffic Police has asked senior personnel to download their respective mobile apps, book a taxi, and issue a challan as soon as it arrives,” said Mr. Chander. The Delhi Government’s Transport Department had followed similar procedures last year.

According to Mr. Chander, once it arrived, a vehicle being operated through the web-based app of any of the three operators would also be impounded following which the traffic police would recommend the cancellation of its permit to the Transport Department.
