Tiff over girlfriend leads to murder in Delhi

Joginder was allegedly trying to be intimate with a girlfriend of Sandeep for which Sandeep planned to eliminate him

July 12, 2012 12:53 pm | Updated 12:53 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Two young men have been arrested along with an accomplice for allegedly killing one of their colleagues and setting his body afire at Jafarpur Kalan in South-West Delhi earlier this week. The police have impounded a vehicle used in the crime.

The charred body of Joginder Sharma (35), a resident of neighbouring Gurgaon, was found near a drain in Jafarpur Kalan on Sunday. His broken mobile phone was seized from the spot. The police inserted its SIM card in another mobile phone on which they later received a call from a person identifying himself as Dharmender, the brother of Joginder who worked as an assistant manager with a private firm.

Dharmender told the police that his brother had on Saturday gone somewhere along with his friends, after which he went missing. They found that Joginder was last spotted with Sandeep (25), who worked as an assistant engineer in the same firm. Enquiries by the police revealed that he was also missing after the incident, raising suspicion about his involvement.

“We learnt that on Saturday night, Sandeep called up the victim on the pretext of a drinking session at Rajiv Nagar in Gurgaon. Suspecting his role, we detained him from Dhansa Village. During interrogation, he initially tried to mislead, but finally broke down and confessed to having murdered Joginder along with his two associates named Soni (32) and Prem (19),” said Additional Commissioner of Police A.K. Ojha, adding that the other two accused have also been arrested.

Sandeep told the interrogators that he worked under the administrative control of Joginder, but they were friends. In due course, relations between the two soured as Joginder was allegedly trying to be intimate with a girlfriend of Sandeep.

On several occasions, the accused asked Joginder to stay away from the girl, but he did not pay heed. Sandeep then allegedly planned to eliminate him. He roped in his colleague Soni and a relative, Prem. On the pretext of a drinking session, they called Joginder to Rajiv Nagar and when he was in an inebriated state, they took him to Jafarpur Kalan. Sandeep then allegedly ran a car over him twice, killing him on the spot. The accused then set the body afire to destroy the victim’s identity.

The police claim to have recovered four ATM cards of the victim from the accused.
