Three wanted criminals arrested after shoot-out

They carried ₹25,000 bounty each

A 29-year-old wanted criminal, Saddam Gauri, and two of his accomplices were arrested following a shootout in Meerut on Thursday, the police said, adding that all three sustained bullet injuries on their legs.

DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said that Gauri, Usman and Dalip were arrested after an exchange of fire in Meerut. The arrested accused were carrying a bounty of ₹25,000 each on their arrest, declared by the Meerut police.

“A Special Cell team was in Meerut to track Saddam who was wanted in a number of cases. The police received a tip-off that he would arrive with his accomplices in a car. A trap was laid in Transport Nagar in Meerut,” he said. The car was intercepted, but the occupants started firing at the police after which the latter fired in retaliation, Mr. Kushwah said.

The police said that Saddam is wanted in many cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, snatching, attack on police, MACOCA among others.
