Three killed in separate accidents in south-east Delhi

Victims include a minor, a senior citizen and a 27-year-old man

A 12-year-old girl, a 60-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were killed in separate accidents in south-east Delhi on Friday, the police said. Two drivers have been arrested in connection with the incidents.

On the way to school

In the first incident, a 12-year-old Class VI student of a government school in Kalindi Kunj was killed and her brother injured when they were hit by a truck around 6.45 a.m.

The speeding truck allegedly hit the divider where the children were standing.

The siblings were on the way to school for extra classes when the incident happened. The deceased has been identified as Ishrat.

Her brother Irshad suffered injuries on the head and legs, and is undergoing treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said the siblings are residents of jhuggis in Jamia Nagar’s Shaheen Bagh.

Ishrat was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where she was declared brought dead. Her body has been preserved for post-mortem.

The police said the truck driver, identified as 28-year-old Pushpender (28), has been arrested. Mr. Biswal said the truck carrying building material was headed towards Noida.

Call centre employee Jai Kumar Saini was killed in the second incident.

Four of his colleagues, identified as Nitesh Sood (27), Dushyant (27), Swaroop (25), and Dharmender (26), suffered injuries as the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a truck around 4 a.m. near Govindpuri metro station.

Night shift

The police said the victims were on the way home after night shift at a call centre in Noida when the incident happened. While Jai succumbed to injuries at AIIMS, his colleagues were discharged after treatment.

Mr. Biswal said the driver fled the spot but his truck was found in Mahipalpur.

“He has been identified as Shriram, who belong to Bihar. Raids are being conducted to nab him,” the officer said.

In the third incident, 60-year-old Noor Jahan, a resident of Jaitpur, was killed after an oil tanker hit the motorcycle being driven by her son around 10 a.m. in Lajpat Nagar.

Noor, who was riding pillion, was rushed to AIIMS, where she was declared dead. The speeding truck was going towards Mayur Vihar when the incident happened.

The deceased was returning from Safdarjung Hospital after a check-up. The truck driver, identified as Kamlesh, has been arrested. He belongs to Uttar Pradesh.

In all three accidents, charges of rash driving, causing death due to negligence, and causing hurt have been levelled against the accused.
