Four persons have been arrested and three juveniles apprehended on Sunday for their alleged involvement in the murder of a 22-year-old man in south-east Delhi’s Okhla Industrial Area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said that Naveen (20), Aman Kumar Singh (20), Mohit Kumar (25), and Sajal Kumar Maheshwari (19) have been arrested and the minors were apprehended for thrashing and stabbing the victim, Kalua alias Kalu, in the small hours of May 23.
The police said the accused found Kalua with two transgenders and he was wearing a black salwar suit and had anklets in his feet.
They allegedly made fun of him and when he retaliated, they took him to a nearby forest and killed him.
‘Devotee of Kali’
Mr. Biswal said the victim, an orphan, was a devotee of goddess Kali who used to dress like her, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
During investigation, the police received a tip-off stating that a group of men were involved in the murder. Following this, they picked up Naveen and two minors for questioning.
“When interrogated, they broke down and confessed to the crime. Both of them then shared the involvement of others after which the rest were nabbed,” Mr. Biswal added. The accused allegedly told the police that they were riding their bikes around 2 a.m. in a drunken state when they spotted Kalua and started passing comments on his attire.
“The victim asked them not to make fun of him. On this, they took him to a nearby forest and started beating him. Then they took out a knife and stabbed him before fleeing the spot,” Mr. Biswal said.
Items recovered
The police have recovered five motorcycles and the knife used in commission of crime.
A senior police officer privy to the case said the teams are working to find the transgenders who were with Kalua just before the incident to ascertain more details.
