The residents of Taimoor Nagar on Saturday held a mahapanchayat demanding a probe into the illegal drug trade operating from the Indira camp JJ colony.

The event was attended by the wife and children of Rupesh Basoya, who was killed for opposing drug sale in the area.

Hours before the event, the locals nabbed three drug peddlers near the victim’s house and staged a protest against the police for allowing them to operate in the area.

During the event, Basoya’s brother Umesh called for a probe into the drug trade.

The protesters invited 360 nearby villagers and declared Basoya to be a martyr who was raised voice against the illegal trade.

Compensation sought

The RWA members, who participated in the protest, threatened to go on an agitation unless the illegally set up JJ colonies were dismantled. The victim’s family also sought a compensation and job for Rupesh’s wife.

The protesters said the slums attract hundreds of buyers from all over NCR. Several drug modules are active in the area, running under the garb of tea stalls and grocery shops, the residents echoed.
