A 21-year-old engineering student has been arrested for allegedly killing 31-year-old tuition teacher on Monday in north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri. The victim was troubling the accused’s girlfriend, he told the police. DCP (North-West) Aslam Khan confirmed the arrest, which was made late on Thursday night but withheld the name for procedural reasons.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused told them that the victim Ankit Kumar, who used to run a private coaching centre, used to threaten his girlfriend to meet him. “He said that Ankit used to force the girl to meet him and talk to him claiming that he had some of her embarrassing videos. The accused decided to take the step after the girl shared the problem with him,” a senior officer said.

Sources said that Ankit was known to the girl and was involved with her over two years ago but the relationship had ended.

The victim’s family had suspected the role of his long-time girlfriend’s elder brother allegedly because he was against their interfaith relationship. However, the police during investigation had maintained that the woman’s family’s role was not being established.
