An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather in Ghaziabad’s Vijay Nagar on Friday night, the police said on Saturday. The accused, a daily wager, is said to be absconding.

On Saturday, the victim was unwell and on being asked, she narrated the incident to her mother, they said.

The mother in her complaint stated that on Friday night, when all the family members were sleeping, the accused forcefully took the girl to another room and raped her. She added that the accused also thrashed and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.

The police had initially refused to lodge the complaint, she said. Following this, the woman approached a local councillor, who then went to Vijay Nagar police station to lodge an FIR. The councillor alleged that a sub-inspector, posted at the police station, thrashed him and pointed his revolver towards him. A complaint in this regard was also lodged.

Vijay Nagar police station incharge Rameshwar Kumar said an FIR has been lodged against the accused stepfather under appropriate sections of IPC and POSCO Act. Teams are conducting raids to nab the accused, he said. The victim is in the housekeeping department at a private hospital, an officer said. Commenting on the councillor’s complaint, Mr. Kumar said action will be taken if the sub-inspector is found guilty.
