Sonu Punjaban, arrested in connection with a case of human trafficking, was attacked in east Delhi while driving back home in the early hours of Wednesday, the police said.

In jail over a case of trafficking and forcing a girl into prostitution, Sonu is currently out on parole, the police said.

The police received information about the shooting near Geeta Colony Pushta around 4 a.m. Personnel from Shakarpur police station rushed to the spot.

Sonu was driving home after meeting a relative when her car was allegedly waylaid by three armed attackers, the police said, adding that she escaped unhurt.

“A case has been registered and further investigation is under way. We are scanning footage from CCTV cameras in the area to gather clues about the attackers,” said an officer.
