Six children, who were being trafficked from Assam, were rescued from New Delhi Railway Station on Tuesday after policemen at the platform suspected something fishy was going on.
Two persons involved in bringing the children have been booked for kidnapping and trafficking, said Milind Dumbre, DCP (Railways).
The children are all between 11 and 17 years of age. They were with some youths above 18 years of age. Some policemen were patrolling when they noticed 18 youths getting off a train with two older men. “The policemen have been instructed to question the guardians of any large group of children at stations if they find something suspicious. The two men in this case could not give satisfactory answers,” said Mr. Dumbre. Subsequent investigations revealed that the boys were being brought to Delhi to be engaged as child labourers, said the police.
They have informed the Children Welfare Committee (CWC) and have contacted the parents of these children.
While involvement of the two suspects has not emerged in any previous cases of trafficking so far, police are investigating the case.
