Signature Bridge: ‘requests on safety measures ignored’

The city government ignored requests by the traffic police on safety measures to be implemented on the recently opened Signature Bridge, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said on Monday.

Referring to letters sent by the traffic police to the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) seeking installation of rumble strips and other measures, he said the AAP government had been negligent.

“In order to get appreciation for the historic Signature Bridge, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal overlooked all security measures that should have been taken and has opened the bridge in a hurry. Now he has closed his ears when three innocent persons have lost their lives on the bridge,” Mr. Tiwari said, referring to two fatal accidents last week.

The bridge was inaugurated by Mr. Kejriwal on November 4 and opened to traffic the next day.
