“Shehzadi was inconsolable after she got to know about Ankit’s murder. She blamed her family for destroying everything. She is traumatised and we are keeping her under observation,” said a woman counsellor, adding that the woman fears for her life and has refused to go back home or with any other relative.

“We produced her before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) from where she was sent to woman shelter home. She refused to go back to any of her relatives,” said a senior police official.

The police said that Shehzadi will be kept under observation at the shelter home and a councillor will attend to her daily.

“After the incident, she is hopeless and unable to cope up with the loss. She has lost her friend to whom she was planning to get married. She has also lost her family members who are in jail now,” said a woman police constable.

The family of Shehzadi’s maternal uncle, who has been arrested for the killing, have left their house after the incident. They lived hardly a 100 metres away from Shehzadi’s residence. “Her maternal aunty used to run the beauty parlour on the ground floor of her house. Shehzadi’s mother also assisted her in managing the parlour,” said a police official.

Left in the night

The relatives of the accused family left their house in B-block Raghubir Nagar during the night on Saturday. This comes after the maternal aunt of the woman was told to evict the shop where she was running her beauty parlour.

Several police personnel have been deployed outside the house to stop any untoward incident

“If they have relocated, then it is their discretion. We have deployed police for their security,” said Vijay Kumar, DCP (West).

The neighbours of the family recalled that a pickup truck had come in the evening following which the family loaded all its belongings and moved. “They didn’t tell much about where they were heading,” a neighbour said.
