A 22-year-old man and his friend were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing a woman over alleged infidelity and theft, the police said on Friday. The woman was bludgeoned to death near central Delhi’s Shanti Van on May 14.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Randhawa said the accused have been identified as Rahul Kumar alias Mohd. Salman and Bunty alias Mukesh Paswan.

The police said they had received a call around 8 p.m. on May 14 regarding a body lying inside a park near Ghata Masjid. When they reached the spot, they found the woman partially clothed.

Tattoo on arm

Her head was smashed and her right arm had a tattoo with two names. The police also found bloodstained clothes near the body.

Chandni Chowk footpath

The police spoke to hundreds of vagabonds, rickshaw pullers, transgenders and hawkers in the area to identify the deceased. They finally learnt that the woman stayed on the Fawara Chowk footpath in Chandni Chowk.

“She was often seen with her boyfriend Rahul, whose name was tattooed on her arm. They frequently visited the park where her body was found,” said Mr. Randhawa.

With the help of human surveillance, Rahul was nabbed from Chandni Chowk.

During interrogation, he revealed Bunty’s involvement in the incident.

“Rahul said he suspected that the woman had become friends with another man a few days ago. He also suspected that she had stolen money from him,” the officer said.

‘Heat of the moment’

The accused told the police that they were heavily drunk on the night of May 13 and killed the woman in the heat of the moment.
