In a major relief to the residents of unauthorised colonies in the Capital, the Delhi Government on Tuesday reduced the sewer and water development charges collected by the Delhi Jal Board for new connections by 80 per cent.

The decision, taken at a State Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, will benefit lakhs of people residing in about 1,700 unauthorised colonies across the city.

The sewer development charges have been reduced from Rs.494 per sq. metre to Rs.100 per sq. metre and water development charges from Rs.440 per sq. metre to Rs.100 per sq. metre. The new charges will be applicable to domestic and mixed land use consumers up to a plot size of 200 sq. metre.
