Senior citizen killed in road accident

A 61-year-old man was killed and two others sustained injuries after the autorickshaw he was travelling in was hit by a truck in north Delhi’s Roop Nagar in the early hours of Thursday, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad said that the deceased has been identified as Munna, who used to work in Azadpur Mandi. The driver of the offending vehicle, identified as Sanjib Mondal (27), has been arrested, Ms. Prasad said.

The police said that the police control room received a call regarding the accident around 5 a.m. When the police reached the spot, they were informed that Munna and another passenger were in the autorickshaw, when it was hit by a speeding truck.All the three were rushed to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital where Munna was declared dead. The auto driver and the other passenger sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.

The police have registered a case in the matter and further investigation is under way, Ms. Prasad also said.
