The South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s first ‘model school’ was inaugurated in Malviya Nagar on Tuesday by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari.
Facilities galore
The schools are equipped with facilities like smart classrooms, computer labs, science labs, multiplay stations, indoor game halls, medical room, library, CCTV cameras, ramps for the differently abled children, a water harvesting system and water coolers.
The school is also equipped with slides and other playground equipment. Built at a cost of ₹2 crore, the school boasts 10 classrooms, two storerooms, a hall, toilets for differently abled students, said Standing Committee chairperson Shikha Rai.
The corporation added that it plans to build 100 such schools in all its four zones. In the first phase, 39 such schools will be constructed.
Praising the SDMC, Mr. Tiwari said it was committed to providing quality education, including computer learning, to students belonging to economically backward sections of society.
Others present at the event included MP Meenakshi Lekhi, BJP national vice-president Shyam Jaju and SDMC Education Committee chairperson Nandini Sharma.
The SDMC currently runs up to 581 primary schools, catering to 2,38,861 students up to Class V, said Ms. Sharma.
