Raj Kumar Ray, a 45-year-old Associate Editor with the business section of Hindustan Times , died after a speeding motorcycle hit him on Sunday evening in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri. The driver has been arrested, the police said.

Severe head injuries

The incident happened when Mr. Ray, a resident of Faridabad, was crossing the road after purchasing fish at Lal Chowk market. A motorcycle driven by 18-year-old Tughlaqabad resident Dalip hit him from behind.

DCP (south-east) Romil Baaniya said, “Dalip was driving very rashly in the busy market. His motorcycle hit Mr. Ray, who fell on the road and started bleeding from the ears apart from suffering severe head injuries.”

Rushed to AIIMS

Mr. Ray was rushed to AIIMS, where he was declared brought dead.

The officer said the incident was witnessed by a police constable returning from duty. The police said the accused has been booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence. “He is a school dropout and has no criminal history,” said the police.
