A day after the arrest of four persons, including an aspiring model, for the murder of a government schoolteacher in Bawana, the police said on Friday that Manjeet had planned and paid for the assassination of his wife Sunita.

The 38-year-old was shot dead on Monday morning while she was on her way to a school in Bawana. The police had on Thursday arrested Manjeet, his alleged girlfriend Angel Gupta, her father figure Rajeev Gupta and Rajeev’s driver Deepak.

Manjeet allegedly got in touch with the contract killers with Rajeev and Deepak’s help. The Meerut-based contract killers demanded ₹10 lakh for Sunita’s murder and Manjeet paid ₹ 2.5 lakh as advance.

“Angel’s involvement in the case was revealed after the team got hold of Sunita’s personal diary. She had mentioned Angel in the diary and how the accused was affecting her married life,” said a police officer.

The police scanned Manjeet’s call records after this clue and discovered that he and Angel talked on the phone frequently. Both were held for questioning.

“Manjeet called the contract killers the moment Sunita left the house for school on Monday morning. She was on a scooty when she was waylaid by the bike-borne assailants. They shot her thrice in the chest and fled,” added a police officer

“The contractor killers are yet to be arrested. Manjeet, a school dropout, met Angel at a club through a common friend. They started meeting frequently and wanted to get married but Manjeet was already married and had two children,” added the police officer.
