Stating that there was a need to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda, RSS joint general secretary Suresh Soni said on Tuesday that if today, he used the same words that Swamiji had when speaking about Christianity in the U.K. over 100 years ago, it would lead to controversy.
‘Controversy will begin’
Speaking at the launch of a book ‘Essential Vivekananda’ by Mukul Kanitkar and Anoop A.J. here, Mr. Soni said Swami Vivekananda had not shied from praising as well as pointing out the weaknesses of various thoughts — whether Western or Indian. “He praised Jesus. The kind of attempts that Christianity is making in India, the words Swamiji used on English soil, if I say here today, then from tomorrow there will be controversy in the media,” Mr. Soni said.
Global summits
He added that there was no doubt about the power of Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts, but there was a need to spread it.
“Where is Swami Vivekananda today? In schools? In colleges? In universities? In discussions of scholars and Ph.Ds?” he said, adding that Swami Vivekananda’s message was being reflected in global summits that talk of sustainable and equitable development.
