A 16-year-old worker was killed and three others sustained injuries when the roof of a welding shop they were working in collapsed in Outer North Delhi’s Swatantra Nagar on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Gaurav Sharma said the deceased has been identified as Munna alias Sallaudin and the injured has been identified as Mohd Mehran (28), Juber (22) and Irshad (20).

The police said that they received a PCR call around 11.30 a.m. that three persons have been admitted to a hospital. When the police reached the hospital, they were informed that four persons were working in the shop which had a roof made of iron and silt sheets. “The roof collapsed due to repair work near its foundation for construction of a drain by a contractor of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department,” the officer said, adding that no work was in progress on Saturday for construction of the drain.

The four were rushed to different hospitals where Munna was declared dead.

The police said that a case under relevant sections has been registered and further investigation is under way.
