Road repair work in Delhi is likely to start in the next week as the protesting contractors have agreed to end their strike. Over 150 road repair works have been pending for the past two and a half months as the contractors are protesting the change in the tender clauses.
A delegation of the contractors had met the Public Works Department (PWD) officials. “The clause regarding payment to labour through cheques will not change but other clauses might be looked into. But the contractors have assured that work will resume from next week,” said a PWD official. Roads after the monsoon have been in bad shape but PWD had floated the tenders since July but there was no response. “We have received many complaints of bad roads but even we couldn’t do much as contractors weren’t taking up any work,” he said.
