A 42-year-old man working for a tourism agency and attached as a driver to an official from the Ministry of External Affairs was injured on Monday after he was hit with a stick in an alleged case of road rage.

The police have arrested the accused.

The victim, Manoj Singh, a resident of servant quarters in M.P. Flats at Baba Kharag Singh Marg, was near the Embassy of Italy in Chanakyapuri when the accused, Rathim Sambi, tried to overtake him but Mr. Singh was not able to allow him to do so.

‘Wanted to overtake me’

“He wanted to overtake my car but I didn’t let him because of the situation on the road at the time. He tried twice or thrice and failed. Then he got angry and yelled: ‘I’ll tell you what happens now,” said Mr. Singh.

The accused then overtook Mr. Singh’s car and blocked him with his vehicle. “He got down, abused me and then took out a stick and hit my side of the window,” said the victim, adding that the man then fled from the spot.

Mr. Singh suffered injuries to his face and hand.

A passerby took down the car’s registration number, which the police used to arrest Mr. Sambi, a marketing professional fromJanakpuri, on Tuesday.
