Resolution against Metro hike introduced

October 05, 2017 01:41 am | Updated 01:41 am IST - NEW DELHI

A resolution asking the Centre to stop the proposed hike in Delhi Metro fares was introduced in the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday by Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot.

Reading the resolution, Mr. Gahlot said the Assembly was “dismayed by the insensitive approach of those responsible for the proposed fare hike without any concern for the common people who are struggling to make ends meet at a time when the country’s economy is on a tailspin”.

Discussion on Oct 9

Further, the resolution urged the Union Urban Development Ministry to “intervene” to stop the hike that is supposed to be rolled out on October 10.

The AAP government had last week come out against the hike, which was announced by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in May. Discussion on the resolution would take place on October 9, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said, extending the one-day session to another day.
