Resident doctors who went on a strike earlier this week have given both the Central and State government time till July 9 to ensure all their demands are positively responded to.
Threatening another agitation, members of Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA), under whose aegis the doctors had gone on strike, said “the government had cheated them and that the minutes of the meeting released by the Union Health Ministry did not reflect the promises made to them.”
Despite the government’s assurance of providing adequate security, we still have on-duty doctors being beaten up, FORDA said.
“We want the government to re-assess and give us a time-bound proposal to ensure that doctors are protected while at work and that there are adequate medicines and other essentials available at hospitals,” noted FORDA president Pankaj Solanki.
“We still fell unsafe. This, despite the Delhi government’s promise that at least 500 home guards will be deployed in all State-run hospitals immediately,” said Pradeep Singh of FORDA.
The doctors say the attacks on resident doctors at Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Rohini and Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Khichripur are a clear indication that things are not well.
“Without adequate drugs, equipment and drinking water, doctors can’t work. The Central government has to act fast to ensure that patients and doctors are taken care of,” said a doctor at Safdarjung Hospital.
