Doctors at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre of AIIMS have given clearance to their 3-year-old patient Chikki (as she is called by the staff here) and discharged her on Tuesday afternoon.

The baby girl was brought to AIIMS a couple of weeks ago by the Uttar Pradesh police after they rescued her from a 15-foot-deep ditch in Bulandshahr. She had a fractured skull, brain injury, was bruised all over and had restricted movement on her right hand and leg due to the fall.

“The child came to us on September 25 and is now doing well. We have requested that she be taken care of at an institute here in Delhi as she will require follow-up treatment at the hospital. It is best if the child is in the Capital itself, which will allow continued follow-up treatment for her,” said Deepak Gupta, neurosurgeon at AIIMS under whose care Chikki was.

“She made a good recovery but had only registered 50% movement on her right hand and leg and will need therapy,” he added.
