The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to respond to a plea moved by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) alleging violation of construction and demolition waste rules in Delhi.

A Bench headed by NGT judicial member Raghuvendra S. Rathore issued a fresh notice to the NHAI and has directed the authority to respond within two weeks.

BSES also given notice

The Bench also directed NBCC (India) Limited and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited to respond to the CPCB allegations within one week.

The directions came on a plea by the CPCB alleging non-compliance of construction and demolition waste rules by agencies. In the plea, the CPCB had alleged that despite notifications from the Centre, several government agencies were flouting the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016.

“Respondents are not paying serious heed to gauge the seriousness and ill effects of construction and demolition waste materials causing pollution not only to water, but also air, in Delhi. This is due to unregulated demolition, disposal or storage of construction and building waste,” the plea stated.
