Air quality in the city saw an improvement on Sunday, with light rain in the early hours of the day bringing down pollution levels.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality index (AQI) for Delhi at 4 p.m. was 336, putting it in the ‘very poor’ category. On January 5, the CPCB had recorded an AQI of 407, which is in the ‘severe’ category.
Meteorological Department data showed that 4.3 mm of rainfall was recorded at the Safdarjung observatory, which is considered the official recording for Delhi, from 8.30 a.m. on January 5 to the same time on Sunday. While the sky was partly cloudy on Sunday, the Met Department forecast mainly clear skies for Monday followed by moderate to dense fog in the morning.
Mercury is expected to dip on Monday, with the maximum temperature likely to go down from the 19.6 degrees Celsius recorded on Sunday to 18 degrees. The minimum was also expected to decrease from 8.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday to 7 degrees on Monday.
