The Delhi Metro’s Grey Line connecting Dwarka and Najafgarh will begin passenger operations from October 4.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials on Monday said, “The Dwarka-Najafgarh corridor of the Delhi Metro will be formally flagged off on October 4 by Union Minister Hardeep Puri and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.”
While the corridor will be flagged off around noon, passenger operations on the line will begin at 5 p.m.
The approximately 4.3-km-long corridor has three stations — Dwarka, Nangli and Najafgarh.
While the Najafgarh station is underground the other two are elevated.
Interchange station
Officials added that metro trains will run at intervals of 7 minutes and 30 seconds on the corridor. Commuters will be able to use Dwarka as an interchange station to take the Blue Line through an 80-metre passageway.
Once the corridor is functional, Dwarka station will be the second interchange station in the Dwarka sub-city, the first being Dwarka Sector 21 station, which connects to the Airport Line.
The corridor will eventually be extended by over 1 km, up to the Dhansa Bus Stand. Construction on the stretch is under way and is likely to be ready for operations by December this year, said officials.
With the opening of this corridor, the DMRC network will expand to 377 km with 274 stations across the network, including the Noida-Greater Noida Aqua Line.
“With the opening of this section, Dwarka metro station is all set to emerge as an interchange facility that will connect the sub-city with the locality of Najafgarh. This corridor is also expected to reduce traffic congestion on the streets of Najafagrh,” said DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal.
